Mike took more pictures than I did. We had one that showed the freeway off to the right. These hills are right off the freeway. The California Poppy is our national flower but we don't get to see them in bloom like this every year. We need the heavy rains that we had this year for the hills to pop with this much color, and they won't last long. As soon as the weather gets really hot (probably in about a month or less), these blooms will die out which makes this such a spectacular event. You can see a lot of people walking through the paths on the lower slope to take their pictures with the flowers. There was another trail about 1/4 mile down the road with even more people, but that path to the top of the first slope to see the canyons was even steeper that this one. Mike and I are both in our 70's... we decided that the hike on the first path would be too much for us... There were 2-3x as many people on those slopes. Some of the pictures I've see from the top of that slope show color for miles on the slopes behind these hills. I'll bet these are pretty from the air.
