Charlotte & Opie

Charlotte is a silver tabby with huge eyes.  She is really my girl.  You know how some cats just choose one person to be "their person"?  Well, Charlotte has done that with me.  She will share her time between both Mike and me, but after she's gone back and forth between us for awhile, she will end up with her face 3" from mine.  And with those big eyes glaring into my face, she just knows I'm going to give in and pet her, and pet her, and pet her some more.  Or if just the big eyes staring into my face doesn't do the trick, she will ever so gently reach out one paw and pat my cheek... What can I say?  Who can resist that?

Opie is our chocolate smoke boy.  We like to use Opie a lot in our breeding program for a couple of reasons... first, he's chocolate, but besides that, he's our smallest boy and has always, always given us really great kittens, no matter which girls we put him with.

First Photos with Eyes Just Opening

Charlotte & Opie - 4 babies born 6/1.
These photos were taken of 6/12.  These little babies are just starting to open their eyes.  I was really just trying to get a couple of shots of the new babies                    on this gold bed.  Their eyes are just starting to open up.  It's really important that we check the eyes every morning and evening for the next week to make sure they are opening without any problems.  When the eyes first open up, sometimes they can get stuck chut... to biggy as long as we catch it and keep the eyes open.  If the eyes get stuck shut, the can get infected... Then you do have a problem.   We wanted to share our first photos with you so here they are.

At this age, mom and babies are still in a little gazebo house where she can snuggle with them and keep them warm.  But when I try to take pictures of mom and fam inside the little house, the photos are way too dark.  We picked up this little popup gazebo house at an outdoor sale at a pet clinic.  It's old, old, old... but it seems to be just the right size for the moms to raise their new families in.  I've kept my eyes open for a replacement but I've never found anything like it that seems to be just the right size and shape,  Our moms don't seem to care about how old it is.  I will usually give the expecting moms a couple of choices to have their new babies in... invariably, they always choose this old thing.

Kittens from a previous litter from Charlotte

I grabbed these 2 photos from my archives to show you a couple of silver kittens from one of Charlotte's previous litters to give you an idea of what her little silver might look like in 4-6 weeks.
